About
I have had a varied career in both the voluntary sector, film/tv industry and media regulation.
I worked full-time as a parish minister for 17 years. I left church work in 2007 to develop a portfolio career.Â
Chairman of Northern Ireland Screen Commission 2008-2013, I took the lead role in developing digital content, supporting new programme and delivery formats in the film/tv sector. The gross value added generated by creative industries for the Northern Irish economy was £797m by 2013. Game of Thrones poured an estimated £250m into the region.Â
I worked in Consumer Advocacy. I was Chairman of the General Consumer Council for Northern Ireland (2008-2015), a member of Consumer Focus UK Board (2008-2014)and Chairman of the Scottish Government Consumer and Competition Working Group (2015).
Deputy Chairperson of the Independent Press Standards Organisation until 2020 I was a member of the team which created a new standards based self-regulatory model for press regulation in the UK.
Until 2024 I was Communications Consumer Panel Chairperson and Northern Ireland Member - one of Ofcom’s statutory committees. I engaged in research and advocacy for consumers advising the regulator, DCMS and stakeholders across broadcast and communications markets.Â
