Sir Trevor Phillips OBE
Broadcaster, Writer, Influencer
Award-winning broadcaster, writer and former politician, currently a non-executive director of Mind Gym. The founding Chair of the Equality and Human Rights Commission, and the first elected Chair of the Greater London Authority. Awarded a Knighthood in the Queen's New Year’s Honour List 2021 for bringing issues of social justice and diversity to the forefront of society. Alongside the Knighthood, he has been the recipient of several honorary doctorates, an OBE and was awarded the Chevalier de la Legion d’Honneur by the French Government.
“It’s less than a generation since it was regarded as perfectly acceptable – in fact desirable – to remove someone from work they did well, they enjoyed and which made a contribution to society, at an arbitrary age. Today, with the likelihood that most people born this year will live to a hundred or more, mostly in good health, such an idea seems not just insulting but impossibly wasteful. Age irrelevance is a debate we must all engage with”
