Turners Oak
Susan Gregory
Turners Oak is the only advisory and estate agency service that specifically works with older homeowners and their families as they navigate the uniqueness of moving home - or even contemplating moving home - in later life. We understand that moves in later life are about so much more than property, and are often a complex combination of practical, financial and emotional uniqueness. Â
Older homeowners are the largest and fastest demographic of homeownership in the UK, yet there is very little specific support available for the 4 million of them who are thinking about moving but don't know where to turn to for advice and support about their options; or for those wanting or needing to move but who feel overwhelmed by the idea, disenfranchised by a process that was not built with them in mind, and who want to remain in control whilst benefitting from trusted, expert support.Â
I founded Turners Oak so that older homeowners could feel empowered to make informed decisions that are right for them; to support family members as they help their loved ones navigate moves in later life; and, ultimately, so that more older homeowners thrive in later life in homes chosen for their current and future chapters whilst reducing moves at times of crisis. Â
We work with clients who are in the early stages of contemplating a move right through to those who are needing or choosing to move now. We build our services around our clients and based on the uniqueness of moving home in later life. We are purpose driven and values based and believe that every older homeowner should be able to make informed decisions that are right for them and live in a home where they can thrive in their current and future chapters.

Through personal and professional experience (having been an estate agent for 17 years) I have seen how the traditional estate agency approach of seeing homes as 'listings to be won' and 'deals to be done' does not serve those who have perhaps lived in their home for 30+ years, who may be moving alone for the first time, or perhaps whose family members are trying to support a move whilst juggling their own busy lives. Â
This in turn disenfranchises older homeowners, often leaving them feeling 'stuck' - even when they might want to make a move. We need to do better to build services, systems and housing that reflects the reality of older homeowners and not expect them to accept solutions that weren't built with them in mind. This ranges from simple communication practices right through to influencing Government policy.
I'm delighted to be advocating for these changes as an Age Irrelevance Change Maker. The Future Ready Homes paper is full of great expert insights and data and I looking forward to being part of bringing it to life.
